K, can't remember: is there an RSS feed for the main Rayd page (like a feed of all of our feeds)? I wanted to add it to my little iGoogle homepage, but had no luck.

RSS feed for main page?

Yeah, I wish.
The main page just goes through the database and determines who had the most recent posts and gives a paragraph(ish) worth of text as a preview. Originally, it was actually pulling from all the various RSS feeds to build itself, but even then it wasn't itself an RSS feed.
So, no, it doesn't do that.

I thought you guys were coding geniuses. As Tim Gunn would say: "Make it work!"

haha, maybe Joe will want to take it on if he has the time. Usually waiting for me to have time to do something like that is futile. It wouldn't be difficult, it's just a matter of taking the time to do it.

you graduated from college, so you should have tons of free time to do stuff like this now.
no more excuses

Actually, I have been giving this very idea some thought for a while now. However, it's not as simple as it sounds. From what I can tell so far, a RSS feed would have to be built from the content of the "Latest Blog Posts" section of the main page, which is itself built from a large unioned and joined query to several databases (as not all the blogs are in the same database).
I'll look more into this and let you guys know what I find.

You guys can add this to your readers: http://rayd.org/RaydRSS.php
Everything should be working properly. I have tested it in my GoogleReader, and everything seems to be working as it should. If you run into issues, please let me know.

Yay! Thanks, Joe!

So how often will the feed update? Just noticed the post I made last night hasn't shown up yet.

The feed itself pulls from the database every time it is accessed, so it should always be up to date. I am not totally sure if GoogleReader saves results or how often it refreshes the feeds. However, your last post is showing up for me.

I am looking into the feed now. There seems to be some weird behavior going on that I am trying to track down.

The feed is staying up to date. It is not updated immediately when a new post is made here on Rayd, but it does show up pretty soon thereafter. I believe that most readers only poll the feeds every so often.

Would any of you use a Rayd forum RSS feed if one was available? Or do you guys just stop by the site occasionally and check the lastest forum posts block?
Also, do any of you actually use the Rayd RSS feed (besides Melissa and me)?
Btw, I have placed a link to the overall Rayd RSS a the bottom of the main page.

I'm going to start using Google Reader more on the iPhone, so I would probably use a forum rss feed.

i use it with google reader, but with rayd being my default homepage, i usually catch articles from the site
